What it does
The bill tells the Secretary of Defense to make a plan within 180 days. The plan must find and remove equipment and computer systems in the U.S. electric grid that foreign countries own or control. The plan must look at risks to military bases and the power grid. It must decide what to remove first and work with states on replacements. Starting in 2028, the military must ask Congress for money each year to do the removal work.
Who it affects
People who use electricity depend on a reliable power grid. The bill aims to remove foreign-controlled equipment that threatens national security and grid reliability.
One thing to notice
The bill does not say exactly what equipment counts as foreign-controlled. The Pentagon will write rules later to decide what must be removed.
