What it does

Starting October 1, 2026, the Department of Education will use a system to check every FAFSA form. It will flag forms that look fake. Schools must then check that flagged students are real. Schools can use video, in-person meetings, or government-approved digital checks. Schools that give aid to flagged students without checking first will be audited.
