What it does

The bill sets up Medicare for America. It is a single health plan for all U.S. residents and people legally here. It starts in 2028 with a public option. Then it moves to one system. This system replaces Medicare, Medicaid, and private plans. People pay premiums based on income, capped at 8 percent. Those below 200 percent of the poverty line pay nothing. The program covers dental, vision, hearing, reproductive health, and abortion.

Who it affects

All Americans and people legally here get health plans. People with low income pay zero premiums. Kids, pregnant people, and people with chronic illness pay nothing for preventive care. Private health plan sellers would no longer sell regular plans.

One thing to notice

The bill ends private health plans for regular care. It creates one government system for all people. Congress members and staff must join starting in 2028 unless they have other qualified plans.
