H.R. 2709 — Save Our Sequoias Act
What it does
This bill creates a comprehensive federal program to protect and restore California's giant sequoia groves from wildfire, insects, and drought. It establishes a Coalition to assess grove health, directs federal agencies to conduct fuel-reduction and reforestation work on federal lands, creates a 7-year emergency authority to bypass some environmental reviews for protection projects, funds grants to nonprofits and tribes for restoration, and sets up a philanthropic fund to support conservation efforts.
Quorum's transparency scan gave Save Our Sequoias Act a moderate transparency flag.
