H.R. 5889 — Eviction Helpline Act

Housing Assistance

What it does

This bill requires the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to establish a free hotline within one year to help tenants in federally assisted rental housing understand their eviction rights and get assistance. The hotline would serve tenants in public housing, Section 8 voucher programs, and other HUD-funded affordable housing, with funding authorized as needed each year.
