S. 5441 — TAS Act
What it does
This bill improves IRS customer service and taxpayer protections through digitization, transparency, and relief measures. It requires the IRS to accept electronic tax returns, use optical scanning for paper documents, publish real-time call wait times and backlogs, expand online account access, automate refund processing for low-income taxpayers, waive installment fees for those below 250% of poverty level, streamline offers-in-compromise, and provide quarterly notices to delinquent taxpayers. It also addresses compliance burdens for Americans living abroad and strengthens Tax Court procedures.
Quorum's transparency scan gave TAS Act a moderate transparency flag.
