What it does
This bill amends the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to require that when Native Americans receive emergency medical care from non-Indian Health Service providers, the IHS must allow at least 15 days to notify the Service of the treatment before payment can be denied. Previously, the law had different (shorter) notification deadlines for elderly or disabled Indians; this bill establishes a uniform 15-day minimum for all beneficiaries except those elderly or disabled Indians, who retain their existing rules.
