H.R. 7834 — Safe Cloud Storage Act

Cybersecurity

What it does

This bill amends federal law to allow law enforcement agencies to contract with private cloud-storage vendors to store and manage child sexual abuse material (CSAM) as evidence, with broad liability protections for those vendors except in cases of intentional misconduct or reckless disregard. The vendors must meet cybersecurity standards, undergo annual audits, keep data in the US unless authorized otherwise, and notify the Department of Justice when hired.
