What it does
This bill stops car makers and other companies from selling car data. They must get clear permission before sharing or selling it. Companies cannot sell exact location data at all. The bill lets people see their own data and take back permission anytime. The FTC enforces the law, and people can sue companies that break it.
Who it affects
People who own or drive cars gain the right to control their car data. They can see it and take back permission. Car makers must follow new rules and cannot punish people who refuse data sales.
One thing to notice
The bill lets car makers share exact location data with the federal government. This applies to safety recalls and investigations without asking first. The bill also lets car makers use data inside their own company to fix cars and run tests. They must remove names and identifying details.
