What it does

The bill tells Customs to collect tariffs on solar cells and modules. These goods came in duty-free from June 2022 to June 2024. Importers must pay the tariffs owed plus interest from when goods arrived. The bill also requires the government to publish which importers got bills. It must also show whether they paid.

Who it affects

Solar installers and companies that imported solar equipment will face sudden bills. People who buy solar equipment may pay more as costs pass along. Consumers may decide not to install solar because prices go up.

One thing to notice

The bill reaches back to June 2022 to collect tariffs on lawful imports. Interest builds from the date goods arrived, not the date bills are sent.
