What it does
The bill requires federal agencies to list their AI systems. Agencies must tell the public when AI makes a choice about someone's pay, job, housing, or school. Agencies must explain in plain words how the AI chose. People can appeal and ask for a human to review. The bill stops agencies from making people sign up with private firms to get government help.
Who it affects
People who get government pay, apply for jobs, or seek housing gain rights. They can know when AI affects their case and can appeal. Private firms cannot use government data to sell ads.
One thing to notice
The bill's rules expire after 10 years unless Congress votes to keep them.
