What it does
The bill tells the SEC to stop trading in Chinese military company stocks. The SEC must act within 10 days after the Defense Department updates its list. A company gets banned if it stays on the list for two years in a row. Some companies on a different Treasury list would not be banned. The SEC must tell Congress if it does not suspend trading.
Who it affects
U.S. investors who own these stocks could no longer buy or sell them. People who already own these stocks might lose money. The SEC must follow the Defense Department's list without making its own choices.
One thing to notice
The SEC must ban trading based on the Defense Department's list. It cannot do its own review to check if the company is risky.
