What it does
The bill tells the Pentagon to make large AI firms report their safety practices. Firms must report AI model weaknesses within 180 days. Firms must tell the Pentagon about serious threats within 72 hours. Firms must confirm their safety facts every 90 days. The Pentagon will give firms guidance to help stop theft and insider risks. Congress gets briefed on major threats within 7 days.
Who it affects
Large AI firms with $100 million in Pentagon deals must follow the rules. These firms must also have $1 billion in AI research spending. The Pentagon and Congress get more facts about AI safety risks. Taxpayers may pay more if firms pass costs to the Pentagon.
One thing to notice
Only the biggest AI firms will have to follow these rules. Smaller AI firms below the $100 million deal threshold are not covered.
