What it does
The bill tells the federal government to give money to nonprofits and health centers. Tribal groups and birthing hospitals also get money. They will buy and hand out kits to mothers with newborns. Kits have diapers, wipes, hygiene items, postpartum recovery supplies, nursing materials, blood pressure monitors, and teaching information. The program gets $5 million per year from 2027 to 2031.
Who it affects
Low-income mothers and newborns in areas that lack good care get the kits. The program targets mothers below 185% of the poverty line. It focuses on rural areas and places with high mother death rates. Nonprofits, health centers, tribal groups, and birthing hospitals run the program.
One thing to notice
The program ends after 2031 unless Congress votes to keep it going. The government must report results by 2030 to show if the program works.
