What it does
The bill tells the Pentagon to start cleaning up PFAS at 100 bases within two years. The Pentagon must finish cleanup work already going on, on time. The Pentagon must tell Congress if it cannot find 100 bases that meet federal rules. The Pentagon must brief Congress within 30 days on all PFAS cleanup work.
Who it affects
Military bases have PFAS in the ground and water. People who live near bases are affected. The bill speeds up cleanup at bases where work has been slow.
One thing to notice
The bill says the Pentagon must clean up at least 100 bases. But the Pentagon can report fewer bases if it says not enough bases meet federal rules. The bill does not say what happens if the Pentagon misses the two-year deadline.
