What it does
The bill tells the federal government to make a standard system for cancer screening. Doctors can add this system to their computers. Within one year, experts must build the system. Within five years, doctor computer systems must use it. These systems will remind doctors which patients need screening. Health plans can choose to use this system.
Who it affects
Doctors, patients, and health systems are affected. Computer companies must add the new system to their software.
One thing to notice
The bill protects patient privacy through HIPAA rules. It does not say how the government will check that privacy rules are followed.
