What it does

The bill tells the Fish and Wildlife Service to update its wolf monitoring plan. It must do this within one year. Then it must remove gray wolves from the endangered species list. The wolves live in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The bill sets up a committee with federal agencies, tribes, states, and wolf experts.

Who it affects

Hunters and livestock producers may gain the right to hunt or kill wolves. Citizens lose the right to use federal law to challenge wolf hunting. Tribes, states, and federal agencies will manage wolves after delisting.

One thing to notice

Once wolves are delisted, states can set their own hunting rules without federal oversight. The bill requires five years of monitoring. It does not force the federal government to act if wolf numbers drop.
