What it does
This bill makes private equity funds legally responsible for company debts. This includes worker wages and pensions. The bill stops private equity firms from taking big payments out of companies right after buying them. It adds a tax on money private equity firms take from companies they own. It makes it harder for private equity firms to use debt to strip assets.
Who it affects
Workers at private equity-owned companies gain more protection. They get paid first if a company fails. People who lend money to private equity firms can now sue the firms if unpaid.
One thing to notice
Private equity firms must stay responsible for worker pay and pensions even if a company fails. Current law lets private equity firms often escape this responsibility.
