What it does
This bill changes federal housing rules for rental homes that get federal money. Landlords must check for lead paint within 15 days. They must fix any hazards within 30 days with no extra time. If landlords do not fix hazards, families can move to safe housing right away. Families keep their federal housing help when they move.
Who it affects
Families with young children in federally-assisted housing get stronger protection from lead poison. Landlords who own rental homes that get federal money must follow the new rules.
One thing to notice
The bill does not say who pays for the lead cleanup work.
