What it does
This bill lets uranium enrichment facilities start construction before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approves them. Right now these facilities must wait for a license first. The bill changes that rule. The NRC must write new rules within 180 days. Companies that already applied can ask to skip the old rules.
Who it affects
Uranium enrichment companies and construction contractors can start building sooner. State, local, and tribal governments must get notice 15 days before construction starts.
One thing to notice
If the NRC later says no, a half-built facility could sit unused. The bill requires notice to governments but does not give them veto power.
