What it does
The bill creates a tax credit for child care workers. Workers must have degrees or credentials in early childhood education. Workers must work at least 1,200 hours per year in licensed facilities. A worker with a bachelor's degree gets $4,500 per year. A worker with an associate's degree gets $3,000 per year. A worker with a Child Development Associate credential gets $1,500 per year. The credit lasts up to 3 years total.
Who it affects
Child care workers with degrees or credentials benefit from the tax credit. Families may benefit if more qualified workers stay in child care. Licensed child care facilities employ these workers.
One thing to notice
The credit ends after 3 years. Workers lose it even if they keep working in child care.
