What it does
The bill makes the government buy carbon dioxide that companies remove. It starts in 2026 with 50,000 metric tons per year. By 2036, it grows to 10 million metric tons per year. The government pays companies to remove carbon. Prices drop from $750 per ton in 2026 to $150 per ton by 2037. At least 20 percent of the work must come from small projects. All removed carbon must be checked by outside groups. Companies must pay if stored carbon leaks out.
