What it does
The bill makes the Department of Defense pay for egg and sperm freezing. The VA, Medicare, Medicaid, and private health plans must also pay. People cannot be charged extra money for these treatments. Service members hurt in combat can freeze eggs or sperm before they leave.
Who it affects
Active-duty soldiers, veterans, and government workers gain access to these treatments. People with private or public health plans also gain access. The bill removes rules that blocked unmarried people and same-sex couples.
One thing to notice
Medicaid coverage does not start until October 1, 2027. Government workers and Medicare users will get access before low-income people.
