What it does
The bill sets up a National Commission to study child marriage in America. It gives money to states that ban marriage before age 18. It funds state task forces to look at the problem. It changes immigration rules so adults cannot bring children into the U.S. to marry them. The bill also helps survivors get legal help to end their marriages.
Who it affects
Minors at risk of forced marriage gain protection and access to services. Survivors of child marriage can get legal help to void their marriages. States get money if they ban marriage under 18.
One thing to notice
States that have not yet banned child marriage stay unaffected. They must change their own laws to get the money. Minors aged 16 and 17 need proof of a compelling, urgent reason for visa approval.
