What it does
This bill changes tax law about faith groups. The government cannot take away a group's tax break based on beliefs about marriage or gender. It makes the definition of 'faith belief' broader. A group no longer has to prove its belief is required by its faith. Schools, hospitals, and charities could keep tax breaks even if they exclude LGBTQ+ people.
Who it affects
Faith groups, churches, and charities gain stronger tax break protection. LGBTQ+ people may face more exclusion from groups that keep tax breaks. Taxpayers fund these tax breaks through lost tax money.
One thing to notice
More types of groups beyond churches can now claim protection. Tax breaks mean taxpayers pay for groups that may exclude people.
