What it does
The bill raises Social Security checks from 2027 to 2036. It helps students stay on checks until age 26. It lets people caring for sick family members get credit. It raises the smallest checks for low-wage workers. It makes yearly raises bigger for older people. All changes end December 31, 2036.
Who it affects
People getting Social Security checks get more money from 2027 to 2036. Students age 22 to 26 and people caring for sick family members become newly eligible. After 2036, all these groups lose the extra money unless Congress votes to keep it.
One thing to notice
All the new checks stop at the end of 2036. Anyone getting extra money will see their checks drop unless Congress passes a new law.
