What it does

The bill tells U.S. Customs and Border Protection to start a three-year program. The program takes dogs from animal shelters and trains them to help CBP workers. CBP must pay for it using money it already has. After three years, the program stops unless Congress votes to keep it.

Who it affects

Shelter dogs get adopted and trained. CBP workers get support dogs to help them. No new taxpayer money is spent.

One thing to notice

CBP must use money it already has to pay for the dogs. If the program ends after three years, the trained dogs may have no home.
