What it does
The bill makes three tax credits permanent. It raises the new electric-vehicle credit from $3,750 to $7,500. It raises the used EV credit from $4,000 to $8,000. It raises the charging infrastructure credit from 30% to 50%. The bill lowers income limits for the new-vehicle credit. Two federal departments must report on three things: vehicle variety, critical minerals for EV batteries, and charging gaps.
Who it affects
People buying new or used electric vehicles get bigger tax credits. Businesses and homeowners building charging stations get more money back. Middle-income households benefit most from lower income limits.
One thing to notice
The bill limits each person to one vehicle credit per year. The income cap for new vehicles drops, so some richer buyers no longer qualify.
