What it does
The bill lets artists file work online instead of mailing copies. Artists can file up to 3,000 photos under one fee. Artists can file work later but claim protection from when they first sent it. The bill cuts filing fees for artists and small shops. People can pay for subscriptions to file work at lower cost.
Who it affects
Artists, photographers, and creators pay less to file their work. Small shops and solo artists pay less. Companies that store photo files can get approval from the Copyright Office.
One thing to notice
The bill does not say how photo file companies must keep artist data safe. It does not say what happens if a company loses artist information. Artists who file work later but claim earlier protection dates could cause fights over who owns similar work.
