What it does
The bill stops people convicted of bribery from working in the federal executive branch. The ban lasts 10 years after conviction. It also bars people convicted of ethics crimes or foreign agent violations. Before taking a job, all appointees must sign a form. They must say they are not banned. If someone breaks this rule, they must leave within 30 days. They pay fines up to $50,000, or they can resign to avoid the fine. The Office of Personnel Management checks candidates and reports to Congress each year.
Who it affects
Federal appointees and the public are affected. People convicted of bribery, ethics crimes, or foreign agent violations cannot hold executive branch jobs for 10 years. The bill creates rules to keep these people out of power.
One thing to notice
The ban lasts only 10 years. After that, someone convicted of bribery can work in the federal government again.
