What it does
The bill makes colleges pay a federal tax for certain people playing in college sports. This includes people who bet money on college games. It also includes people who played pro sports. The tax starts at 5% of sports money for one violation. It goes to 10% for two violations. It goes to 20% for three or more violations in six years. Schools do not pay if the person only practices. Schools do not pay if the person is on a roster but does not play. Schools do not pay if a court ordered the person to play.
Who it affects
College sports programs would have less money to spend. This could mean fewer programs, smaller scholarships, or higher student fees.
One thing to notice
The bill does not explain what counts as a violation. It also does not say how schools can argue against the government.
