What it does
The bill makes community college tuition free for students who qualify. The federal government pays 100% of the cost at first. By 2032, it pays 80% and states pay the rest. The bill gives money to states and tribal colleges to help students succeed. States must keep spending the same amount on higher education.
Who it affects
Community college students get free tuition. States must pay part of the cost and follow new rules. Tribal colleges get all their money from the federal government.
One thing to notice
States must pay more each year, from 25% to 100% over nine years. Students can only get free tuition for six semesters.
