What it does

The bill changes tax rules for gifts of valuable things. It covers stocks, land, and other property that gained value. People who give such property to political groups cannot claim a tax deduction now. This bill adds three more group types to that rule. It covers social welfare groups, labor unions, and business leagues. Donors cannot deduct gifts of appreciated property to any of these groups.

Who it affects

People who give stocks or land to social welfare groups will lose a tax deduction. Labor unions and business leagues may get fewer such gifts. These groups may have less money to spend.

One thing to notice

Donors will pay more in taxes if they give appreciated property to these groups. This makes it costlier to fund groups that do not disclose their donors.
