What it does
The bill lets the Attorney General give money to set up disposal sites. People can safely throw away old opioid pills at these sites. A new fee of 1 cent per 100 milligrams of opioid pays for the sites. Cancer patients, hospice patients, and their families do not pay the fee. Other people who take opioids will pay the fee.
Who it affects
People who take opioid pills will pay a small fee on prescriptions. Cancer patients and hospice patients are exempt and do not pay. Communities will get new places to safely dispose of old pills.
One thing to notice
The bill protects cancer and hospice patients from the fee. Other patients on opioids will pay more for their medicine.
