What it does
The bill tells the Department of Homeland Security to run two prize competitions. One helps people understand how AI makes decisions. The other helps AI systems resist attacks designed to fool them. DHS must start these competitions within 270 days. DHS must report results to Congress within 180 days after the first competition ends. The bill gives $10 million for this work from 2027 to 2031.
Who it affects
AI research companies and startups can compete for prize money. The federal government will hire contractors to run the competitions. Citizens may benefit if AI systems become safer.
One thing to notice
The bill requires DHS to report results to Congress. It does not require the results to be shared with the public.
