What it does

The bill sets up a federal grant program. It gives up to $15 billion per year. Grants run from 2027 to 2036 to power companies. Power companies can bury lines, install fire-resistant gear, or cut plants near lines. They can also watch the grid. Power companies must pay half the cost themselves. Small power companies only pay one-third. At least 40% of grants go to wildfire projects. At least 20% go to small power companies.

Who it affects

People get protection from wildfires caused by power lines. People get better power when storms hit. Power companies get grants if they pay their share.

One thing to notice

Power companies must pay half the cost of projects. This may be hard for small or poor power companies.
