What it does
The bill gives small companies two tax credits. First, it doubles the money they can deduct for making offices usable. The amount goes from $15,000 to $30,000. It adds phone and web access to what counts. Second, it extends the Work Opportunity Credit through 2030. It creates a new credit for companies that keep staff for up to five years. Companies get bigger credits the longer they keep workers. Credits are worth 50 to 100 percent of wages. The bill requires yearly reports on hiring and keeping staff.
Who it affects
Small companies get tax credits when they hire workers and keep them longer. Workers may earn more if employers share the tax savings. The bill does not require employers to do this. Companies that make offices usable also get tax credits.
One thing to notice
The bill gives tax credits to companies but does not promise workers will earn more. The bill requires yearly reports on hiring and keeping staff. It does not say what happens if results are poor.
