What it does
This bill stops states from taxing workers in another state. Workers can only be taxed by their home state. Or they can be taxed by a state where they work more than 30 days per year. Professional athletes and entertainers are not protected. Employers can rely on what workers say about where they work. The law starts in the second year after Congress passes it.
Who it affects
Workers with jobs in more than one state would pay fewer state taxes. States would collect less tax money. This could mean higher taxes on other people or fewer public services.
One thing to notice
Professional athletes and entertainers are left out. States can still tax them if they work there for fewer than 30 days.
