What it does

The bill makes the IRS follow new rules. Before it takes away a group's tax status, the IRS must send a detailed written notice. It must keep a written record of what it finds. The IRS must give the group at least 30 days' notice. Then it can send a final letter to revoke status. The group can ask for a meeting with a supervisor. The group can get copies of exam records within 30 days.

Who it affects

Tax-exempt groups, religious groups, and schools face new rules when the IRS examines them. The IRS may try to revoke their tax status. Churches get the same new rules as other groups.

One thing to notice

The bill requires the IRS to show its work in writing. This gives groups more time and more chances to respond.
