What it does

The bill stops the President, Vice President, and Congress members from owning stocks. It also stops senior government workers, judges, spouses, and children from owning stocks. Anyone who breaks this rule must sell within 30 days. Penalties include daily fines up to 10% of portfolio value. Violators also pay $10,000 per violation and give back profits made. The money from fines goes to the U.S. Treasury.

Who it affects

The bill affects the President, Vice President, and Congress members. It also affects senior government workers, judges, spouses, and children. It stops these people from trading stocks in companies they regulate. It stops them from using secret information to make money.

One thing to notice

Spouses and children may still be allowed to trade stocks for work as traders. The bill does not address blind trusts that are already set up.
